Kijro is Home

We picked up our mooring in Sokeh’s Harbor late yesterday morning after a three day sail from Kosrae. We arrived off Pohnpei about 02:o0 on 1 September. Tried to enter but thought better of it and drifted under bare poles for 5 hours before entering and going to the commerial wharf for the check in procedures. These took more than three hours, but the officals all came to the boat, making the process easy. We had a bottle of red wine in the cockpit after tying up to the mooring. Later we had a pick lunch at Ocean View Hotel, then went on a round of the bars, getting home late and feeling pretty good (not true this morning). It is great to be home. When I woke up late this morning, I saw my trombone case perched on top of the wardrobe and immediately thought that I had to secure it before it rolled or pitched off the top. It took a few moments before I realized that the apartment wasn’t rolling.

  1. Congratulations John! So glad to hear that you are finally home safe and sound. I’m sure you deserved and needed some celebration after that very long and arduous journey. Post some pictures when you have had a chance to recuperate; it would be great to see some pictures of your sail and home in Pohnpei.

  2. As soon as Lisa told me that Jean saw Kijro at the dock, I sent family and friends an email and posted the good news on Facebook, too. Here are some of the return comments:

Richard Chokan: Good Midday; Yes, I agree Hallelujah; Seems like John has been very fortunate in many ways. He planned it just right, to be there to start teaching again as I recall. Hope all is well with them & you & yours. What is the next plan? It may be a slight harder to obtain a voyage to outer space & back. Take care be in touch. All secure for now.

Jim Heflich: That’s great – what an epic voyage!

Nancy Lorey: Super! While that is a wonderful adventure he took, it’s also a relief that he
    arrived safely!!

Congratulations! With our love and a lot of bear hugs from 1291!

  3. Awesome Uncle John: So glad to hear you made it home OK! Tell Aunt Jean Happy Bday from all of us up in NW WI, We have all followed your exploits and are glad it was a safe trip (for the most part). Way to celebrate, too. Have a good one. P.

  4. It’s great to know that you’ve arrived safely. Quite a journey. I have shared it with many of my friends. Are you going to write a book?

    Many blessings.

  5. The olde landlubber asks, “Do people sail because they love the feeling of arriving home?” And, John, how many stars did you count? I wanna come on the next trip — kitchen boy, trombone holder, sea chantey singer, whatever.

  6. Hey John, well done and best wishes from all your friends at TTSA.
Enjoy your family and the riches of your island home.
    regards
    Ray and Irene
